FAQ

  • Like most specialty services, Secure Start does not participate in any insurance plans.

Many insurance plans offer “out-of-network” benefits, which cover portions of services offered by out-of-network providers. Mentaya and Thrizer are two companies that can help you navigate using your out-of-network benefits. You may be able to get reimbursed for part of session fees, or even only have to pay your copay or coinsurance (after your deductible is met).

Please note that services are only reimbursable if you have out-of-network benefits and if you have a demonstrated medical need (i.e., diagnosis). We are happy to discuss the pros and cons of using out-of-network benefits.

  • We are currently only offering online appointments, but we plan to offer in person appointments in Evanston, IL in the future. Please let us know if you’d like to be on the waitlist for in person slots in particular!

  • Payment is due at the beginning of each session. We require an active credit card on file at all times.

  • Cancellations less than 24 hours in advance will be charged the full fee, and cancellations 24-48 hours in advance will be charged a partial fee. We will try our best to reschedule rather than cancel, but cannot guarantee that this is possible.

We understand that life happens and there are times when you simply cannot make an appointment.  However, a canceled appointment hurts three people: you, your therapist, and another client who could have potentially used your time slot. When a session is canceled without much notice, we are unable to fill this time slot by offering it to another client.

  • Under the law, health care providers are required to give patients who do not have insurance or are not using insurance an estimate of anticipated costs for services. You have the right to receive a good faith estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items and services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a good faith estimate in writing at least one business day prior to service. You can also ask your provider for a good faith estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your good faith estimate, you can dispute the bill.
